600 Kilometers Range: Volvo Announces Super-E-Truck

What Volvo Trucks announced shortly before the IAA Transportation in Hanover is quite a small sensation: an electric truck for long-distance transport with an impressive range of 600 kilometers per charge. The long-range version of the FH Electric is to be launched by next year.

With this, the manufacturer is almost doubling the range of the current top-of-the-range FH Electric model. For Volvo Trucks, this is nothing less than a breakthrough for long-distance transportation without exhaust emissions. After all, transport companies should be able to complete a full working day with the FH Electric Long-Range without intermediate charging.

Completely new drivetrain

This is made possible by a completely newly developed drivetrain. In the new model, Volvo is moving away from the conventional central drive with a conventional axle. Instead, the manufacturer is using an electric axle with integrated motors in the FH Electric Long-Range that creates space for additional batteries. And these should also be even more efficient than the previous ones. In addition, an advanced battery management system contributes to the high efficiency of the drivetrain.

In addition to the ecological benefits, Volvo is now also bringing the improved driving experience of e-trucks to the long haul thanks to less noise and vibrations. The manufacturer is thus clearly targeting the premium segment, which will probably also be reflected in the price. You certainly won’t find a bargain here.

At a glance: the highlights of the Volvo FH Electric Long-Range

  • up to 600 kilometers range per charge
  • new e-axle drive with room for additional batteries
  • more efficient batteries
  • improved battery management system

Volvo Trucks sees itself as a pioneer in medium and heavy-duty electric trucks. The manufacturer currently offers eight models in this segment. According to the company, it has already sold more than 3,800 electric trucks worldwide.
